After years of experimentation (and holding on to my beloved toast and oatmeal for dear life), I have determined that animal protein is what fuels me best in the beginning of the day. With it, mid-morning energy “dips” are a thing of the past and I am more stress-resilient. I think more clearly, have less anxiety, and experience no cravings.
These tasty homemade breakfast sausage patties are an easy way to experiment with changing up your day’s food intake and seeing how you feel with a solid meal in the morning. Serve with half a leftover sweet potato and some cooked greens (or green soup!) for balanced, nutrient-dense meal.
1 lb organic ground turkey thigh meat
2 tbsp fresh chopped sage (or 1 Tbsp dried)
1/2 tsp Himalayan or sea salt
1/4-1/2 freshly ground black pepper
Optional: 1/2 tsp hot red pepper flakes (if you don’t have reflux and have determined nightshades are not an irritant for you)
Preheat oven to 400.
Mix all ingredients in a medium sized bowl.
Divide into 8 small patties on a baking sheet, pyrex dish, or cast iron pan.
Cook for 15-20 minutes.
Note: these can also be made stovetop in a cast iron skillet.
Post-cleanse recipe variation:
Make your very own Italian sausage patties: Try pastured pork with fennel seeds, salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes!
Note: You can double this recipe to make a batch to freeze.
These can also be made stovetop in a cast iron skillet.
